Start by checking the connector on your Durango. Make sure there is no corrosion or debris present. Corrosion could allow the power to jump pins which would activate the marker lights when the brakes are pressed. If you find corrosion it would be best to replace it with the # HM40975.

After that, double check your ground connection and make sure it is secure on a clean, bare-metal surface. If that doesn't take care of it all you can really do is work your way back checking for power with a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to find where this starts happening. It is possible there is a short in the running light wire and one of the brake light wires allowing power to cross over.

You are correct I had a dead short from brake lights to tail lights, buts it was in the unlikeliest of places. It was internally on my 3057 bulb. The filament had blown but had one side long enough to hit the other element leg and fused the two elements together so you would not of known without taking the bulb out or checking the lights with a second person and while wearing my sunglasses I saw a slight little ember of an element in the wrong spot
