Best T-Channel Kayak Carrier For Carrying A 70 lb Hobie Revolution

Question:

Hi - I have T channel roof bars and am looking for J style kayak carriers for two heavy kayaks Hobie Revolution 13s - 70 lbs each. I am considering the Thule Hull a port Aero or the Kuat 4V2. Would one or the other of these be better for this application? Thank you! Dave Saylor

Hello Dave. Both the Thule Hull-A-Port # TH834 and the Kuat Class 4 V2 # KU53VR are great options that will be able to handle your 75 lb Hobie Revolution 13s. Between the two, I recommend that you go with the Kuat Class 4 V2 # KU53VR.

The main reason I prefer the Kuat # KU53VR is because the carrier is foldable. Meaning it can be collapsed when not in use to help save space/clearance on the roof. The Thule carrier is not foldable making it not quite as versatile. I really just like the Kuat brand in general. I have been using one of their bike racks for a few years now and I have been quite happy with the durability and ease of use. Kuat's customer service and support is also top notch if that need ever arises.

I have linked our video review for the Kuat carrier below.

Jesse - Thanks for your quick response to.my question. What do you think of the Thule Hull a port Aero (which also folds down) compared to the Kuat Class 4v2?

@Dave Another good option. Very similar to the Kuat and it will also work with the T-slots. The big difference here is the price point and the Kuat is currently quite a bit less expensive so I would stick with that.
