Why Do Tow Hooks Need To Be Removed In Order To Install A Front-Mounted Trailer Hitch
Question:
Why do you have to permanently remove the front tow hooks to mount the curt front mount reciever hitch on a 2022 ram 1500 truck?

Hey Bob,
Front mounted hitches, like the Curt # C87FR are going to mount in the same location on the frame rail as the tow hooks so they'll need to be removed in order to install the trailer hitch.

I realize the hooks need to be removed for installation of the hitch bracket to be flush with the bottom of the frame rail member. But why can't I use a 5/16" spacer plate [ which is the thickness of the hitch bracket] between the hook base and the frame rail and re-mount the hooks with longer bolts? Yes the hooks will be 5/16" lower in the bumper opening but that is no big deal, considering I will be able to retain the factory hooks.
