Recommended Equipment for Flat Towing 2004 Ford F250 King Ranch 4x4
Question:
I am looking for a towbar assembly to install on the front of a 2004 F250 4wd automatic diesel crew cab with short bed, king ranch model. The vehicle is factory height with no other modifications. Can you please advise as to which products you carry that will handle this this truck as equippeed above? I looking for a complete package that will install on a 2inch ball to pull the truck with. Thank you

As long as your truck isn't the Harley Davidson or STX edition, the Blue Ox # BX2163 base plate would be a good choice. If your truck weighs under 5000 lbs, you can use the Blue Ox Acclaim towbar, part # BX4330. This towbar is compatible with the 2 inch trailer ball you were speaking of. If it weighs more, you'd need to use a receiver mount towbar like the Blue Ox Alpha, part # BX7380.
You will also need to wire the truck so that the taillights of the truck operate with those of the towing vehicle. This can be done by using a magnetic mount tow lamp kit like the Roadmaster # RM-2120. You could also use a diode kit like part # RM-154 that would tap into your taillight circuits for a permanent installation.
Finally, you would need a supplemental braking system to operate the brake system of the truck in tandem with those of the tow vehicle. The Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR is extremely easy to use and install.
Some vehicles aren't capable of being flat towed unless certain modifications like a transmission lube pump or a driveline disconnect is used. Your owner's manual or Ford dealer should be able to tell you if the truck can be flat towed. My research indicates that the vehicle may be towed if it has a manual transfer case. If it has an automatic transfer case, a driveline disconnect would need to be installed. I urge you to confirm this information for yourself.
