Will The Kuat Transfer 4 KU77FR Touch The Ground When Tilted On A 2023 Hyundai Tucson

Question:

Will the Kuat Transfer 4-bike touch the ground when tilted down on a 2023 Hyundai Tucson with a class 3 Curt hitch? I see in a video on your site that I could not open the hatch with the 3-bike version, but could I remove just the nearest bike to open the hatch? I need a bike rack for two adult bikes and two childrens bikes.

Hello Michelle. To answer your first question, the Kuat Transfer 4 # KU77FR should not touch the ground when tilted on a 2023 Hyundai Tucson with the Curt Class 3 Hitch # C94WR, but it will be very close.

We tested this bike rack on a 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon, which has a very similar hitch height to the 2023 Tucson. The Subaru hitch is 15.5" from the ground and the Tucson hitch is at 15" so very similar. With the Kuat rack on the Subaru with the 15.5" hitch height the rack did not touch the ground when tilted, and there was about 1" or 2" between the rack and the ground. So with the hitch on your Tucson being 1/2" lower it should not make contact with the ground on completely even pavement, but it will be very close. If you are parked on ground that is not completely level you may risk it touching the ground.

As far as opening the hatch with the 4-bike, you SHOULD be fine. This clearance can depend on what kind of bikes you have, so it is hard for me to say with certainty. If you were to remove the nearest bike, opening the hatch will be no problem. Again, depending on what kind of bike you have you may want to remove more than just the nearest bike. The added weight of the bikes can make tilting the rack more difficult.
