Is Ground Clearance an Issue with the Saris Freedom 2 Bike Tray Style Hitch Carrier

Question:

how much clearance from the ground is needed? I have a Honda Fit. what are the wheel cradles made of and how well do they hold up? how far out from the back of the car are the tire cradles? again, I am concerned about the rack/bikes dragging the ground if I go down a steep hill or over a speed hump. What is the height from the ground to the cradles if my car is just 9inch off the ground to start with. Not sure how high I could lift my ebike to get it on the rack

Hey Nancy, so there isn't a minimum ground clearance required for use with the Saris Freedom bike rack part # SA4412B-FB but this rack has a really large rise built into the shank of 8 inches so it would do a great job keeping your bikes high enough that they wouldn't drag.

The wheel cradles are made from plastic but they were reinforced in a way that they are very strong and wouldn't break. Plastic also helps keep the weight down.
