Troubleshooting Brake Controller Not Working After Stereo Install
Question:
Prodigy P2 Brake Controller has worked flawlessly for 10 years. Had a new stereo head unit with better back-up camera/screen installed on my 2013 Nissan Frontier. Since the new radio install, there is no .c on the P2 led screen. It just shows the power setting. No matter what I do, the .c never shows up on the screen. Also, when I plug my camper into the back of the truck, there is a low, high-pitched hum coming from my camper axle. As soon as I unplug, the hum goes away. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hey Michelle, it sounds like the stereo installer may have messed with the wiring of the brake controller. This could have been on accident. Since it's not showing the .c on the screen I would assume the problem is the blue wire of the brake controller and how it connects to the vehicle wiring. But I would go over all of the wiring of the brake controller checking the connection of all of the wires.
Or, you could take it to the stereo installer and tell him that he needs to figure out what he did wrong.
The hum on the axle is most likely a 12 volt power source shorting out to the brake output circuit. The brakes are most likely locked up when you hear that.
