Does etrailer Still Sell Trailer Axles

Question:

Was inquiring about an axle, I am about an hour or so from Wentzville but wanted to see what the options were for me specific needs. Didnt know if you all still could accommodate that kind of request or if you had gotten away from axles. Thanks!

Hey Jason, thanks for reaching out!

We definitely do still carry trailer axles! I'm linking our selection for you to filter through but if you can give me some details about what you're needing (weight rating, hub-face, and spring-center measurements) I'd be more than happy to help you narrow down what you're looking for to get your trailer up and running!

I apologize for the late response time, I needed to measure my old axle and that was a little harder than I thought where it is at. Hopefully we can make sense of these measurements and my issue for potential change: Spring mounts are 58.5 inches wide. Leaf springs underslung currently. 70 and 7/8 inches from hub face to hub face (This could easily be 71" from the way I had to measure it out.) Currently the tires are 5 bolt, 205/65/10 E rated tires purchased a while back from Etrailer, galvanized rims. What I want to do is complicated but I would assume achievable somehow, I have seen it done but could not get the information from those folks. I want to lower the trailer to give me more room when putting the boat in and out of my garage, which will also make the boat easier to launch at the same time. I am also assuming I would have to change tires which would also aid in the room for the drop overall. In the middle of the axle, it seems to have 9 and 3/4 inch ground clearance. there is a V style beam that holds the keep that does drop below this though. If needed, with a little time I could draft the entire thing on graph paper and provide some pictures to assist. I was wondering if a custom axle could be spec'd for the project, along with tires and such and see how much room I could gain by doing so.

@JasonD Thanks for all the details! For your application I recommend checking out the Timbren Axle-Less kits that have a 4" drop. We have one available with an Idler Hub # A35RD545 as well as a whole Hub and Drum Setup # A35RD545E. If you'd rather stick with a standard-type axle then you'll need to reach out to a shop who can custom order an axle for you. I don't recommend going with a smaller tire/wheel setup because to get any significant amount of drop you'll have to get a much smaller tire with a much lower weight rating so you'd likely be overloading the tire.

@JonG If I stick with the same tires I have now (205/65/10 E rated on Galvanized rims) will they work with this setup? I could not find a center of spindle to the bottom of the unit measurement to check from say a tire loss blowout where the trailer would then ride on the rim, instead of having them ride on the system. Hope that makes sense.

@JasonD I completely understand where you're coming from! If you were to have a blowout then your 10" wheel should be making contact with the ground before the torsion arm does, but if you take away all of the rubber from the tire then the arm will likely be hitting in tandem with the wheel. From the middle of the spindle to the bottom of that arm is going to be about 7" without any weight on the system, and that will be reduced to about 6" with weight on the arm.
