Can The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Settings Be Changed When Not Connected To a Trailer?
Question:
I have the Tekonsha p3. Can I change the settings for the background color? With out the trailer being plugged into the truck? Or any of the settings? At 25 mph as I apply the manual switch the truck slows down but if I apply the manual switch again as the speed is down to maybe 21-19 the brakes lock is that a problem or is that ok? As I drive the truck and apply the truck brakes I can feel the trailer and truck work together and the trailer brakes don’t lock. At a slower speed or a faster speed. And I have not applied the brakes hard to see if the trailer brakes lock up or not. Should I apply the truck brakes hard to see if the trailer brakes lock?

The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 does not need to be connected to the trailer to adjust the settings for the screen on your controller. As far as the issues with the brakes locking up at lower speeds with the manual switch you might check your boost settings and how high your controller is dialed in. Ideally under hard braking you want the brakes at the point that they just start to lock up. You can use the boost settings along with the sensitivity settings to dial in the braking where it doesn't harshly jerk under normal braking.
