Should Weight Distribution Hitch Be Setup With Vehicle Loaded
Question:
Hi, when setting up a trailer leveling hitch should I load my vehicle with the gear weight I will be carrying to allow for additional sag before setting up the leveling hitch?

The answer to your question depends on what the hitch instructions call for. If you have the Curt # C17501 you find the target uncoupled ball height in step 3 by adding 1/8" for each 100 lbs of tongue weight to the measurement from setp 1. Tongue weight includes the weight of anything behind the rear axle in your tow vehicle so you need to account for this. A WDH like the Equal-i-zer # EQ64FR has you measure the tow vehicle loaded for the trip.
