Recommended Brake Controller for a 2001 Toyota Tundra With OEM Towing Package

Question:

I have a 2001 tundra trd with factory towing package. I want to install a brake controller but I can only find adapters that are for tundras without the tow package? Where can I find a plug and play adapter that will plug into the factory connection under my dash? Thanks.

Justin, it does not look like that's going to be an option unfortunately. It seems odd that they'd offer this truck with a factory tow package but no one ever made a plug in adapter, but that looks to be the situation.

I checked with Tekonsha as well to make sure I wasn't missing anything, but it looks like your only option is to use a universal harness which would splice into your OEM wiring.

You could also use the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller # C51180 which would plug into your 7 way and provide your trailer with braking capabilities without having to splice into any wiring.

Hey Bryce thanks a lot for the information. If I wanted to splice it into the factory harness is there any instructions for this? And is there anyway I can verify that the harness under my dash is in fact for a brake controller ?

@Justin Yeah if you wanted to splice into your harness you could then use # RED24FR with the universal harness # RED69FR. As far as finding out if the port under your dash is for a brake controller, you'd need to refer to your owner's manual and see what that port is labeled as.
