How to Determine Replacement Axle Fixing Up Older Trailer

Question:

I am working on fixing up a 66 Croft Industries CHT-234 2-axle, 5000 lb. Im needing a wheel hub but Im having trouble figuring out the right one. Based on the measurements Im getting its 5-lug 4.5. The inner bearing Im getting about 1.28, outer bearing about .85. Seal is about 1.38. I know with wear and rust Im sure these arent exact, but I would greatly appreciate any help figuring out the right fit replacement. I have pics with dial calipers on it if itd help. Thanks!

Hi there Jason; thanks for that info and you did all the right measurements but unfortunately there is no hub that fits a spindle with those dimensions. This happens quite a bit on some of these older trailers so the best I can offer is replacing your axle with one that has a standard spindle and hubs. This will also make it easier to get replacement bearings and hubs in the future.

I know it's not the answer you were looking for, but if you want to do this it's pretty easy to determine the right one. You will just need to know the dimensions of your current axle's hub face to hub face and spring center to spring center; I have added a link below to a video which walks you through how to measure.

For example, the Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs # e65GR has a 3,500 lb capacity and measures 89 inches from hub face to hub face and 74 inches from spring center to spring center.

I've also added a link below to our selection of axles for you which you can filter through by length.
