Will 2020 GMC Sierra 3500 Trailer Camera System Work with Furrion RV Camera System

Question:

I own a 2020 GMC 3500hd with a 360 trailer camera system installed. I will be picking up my new used camper next weekend and I was informed it has a Furrion camera system. Unfortunately I dont know which one yet, but I do know that the screen plugs into the cigarette lighter in the cab to view the rear mounted camera. Is there a way to not have to use that separate screen inside the cab? Is there a way to use the already installed system in my truck with that rear camera? Thank you for your time and assistance.

Hey Tim, thanks for reaching out!

The Furrion cameras are only compatible with the Furrion monitors so if you want to use the monitor on your 2020 GMC Sierra 3500 you'll unfortunately have to swap to the GM camera system for a trailer.

If you'd like to stick with the Furrion system then you'll need to also install the 12V PWM Filter for RV Backup Camera Systems # VGR64VR so the cameras will get the correct power instead of the pulsing power GM decided to start using.

It is nice to have all of the systems on your vehicle working through a single monitor, but one advantage to using the Furrion system with a separate monitor is that you don't have to cycle through buttons and options to change settings on your truck and get back to the cameras.

Isn't there another type of connection that attaches to the trailer outlet in my bed and then the pigtail attaches to that so give correct power to the camera system? Thank you!! Tim

@TimA We do also have the 7-Way Vehicle Power Adapter for Furrion RV Observation Camera # FR87PR that can be used instead. This is plug-and-play as opposed to the permanent installation of the wiring above which is nice for the install - but you'll need to add this to your list of things to grab before you head down the road for your camping trip.
