Hello Susan, what exactly is preventing you from using a conventional bike frame adapter? Is it because of the size of the frame? If so, one option may be to use the SportRack Bike Frame Adapter Bar # SR0500. It has an opening on each end 3-1/2" long and 2-1/8" wide, so it can accommodate larger frames than most adapter bars. If you can tell me exactly why the adapter bar is not working, and/or the frame size I may be able to shed more light on the situation.
If the frame is too large to work with an adapter bar, I am afraid there is really no alternative solution. The only option would be to use a different bike rack, such at the Thule EasyFold XT # TH903202 which will work with virtually any frame size or shape.
