What Happens if "W" Shape From Trailer Equalizers Is Too Spread Out

Question:

Hello I have a question regarding trailer suspension. I am working on a trailer project and I just replaced all of my suspension components. I was able to firm the W with my spring shackles and equalizer but the W doesn’t look as tight/closed as some photos I’ve seen. I replaced all components with same size I took off and I will outline that below: 25 1/4” 5 leaf springs 3” 6k lb Al/KO axles Had to reuse equalizers with new bushings they are 6 1/8” center hole yo center hole actors bottom and about 4” top to bottom Hanger downing is 29 1/2” both ways back to center and front to center My question is does my W look correct or does it seem to spread? And will I have trouble if it is too spread? See photos attached Thanks a bunch!

Thanks for reaching out, Scott!

The "W" shape formed by your equalizer, shackles, and leaf springs actually looks to be just fine. Since your 25-1/4" Long 5-Leaf Double-Eye Springs # e34SR are the same and you have the same distance between your hangers I don't really see any issues here. I've attached a photo of this same location from our installation of the same leaf spring for you to reference.

If that "W" shape were to be spread out too much then yes, you would have trouble. Basically what would happen is the instant you put weight on the trailer and/or hit a bump that "W" would turn into an "M" and your axles would probably start making contact with your trailer frame.
