What Size Hitch Can Carry a 76 lb E-Bike

Question:

I have been in search of a 1 1/4” fat tire rack and it’s been difficult finding one . My bikes 76 pounds w/o the battery. Do you have a rack that’ll work for me? I hope you can help. My problem is the hitch size and bike weight. Thank you.

I really wish we had something that would work for you but none of the bike racks we carry that fit a 1-1/4 inch hitch have the capacity needed for a 76 lb bike.

Would it be ok to use a 1 1/4’ with a 2 “ adapter with a fat tire bike rack? I can’t find anything that will carry my 76 pounds bike as far as a rack. I can find racks but what I need has the 2” receiver. Mine is 1 1/4”. Thanks.

@FrankH The problem with those types of adapter is they cut the capacity of the hitch they are used in by 50 percent which for a Class I hitch that typically only has like a 200 lb tongue weight capacity so if you cut that in half you just wouldn't have enough. What's year/make/model of the vehicle? It's a long shot but maybe there's a 2 inch hitch available and you could use a bike rack like the Hollywood Racks RV Rider part # HLY64FR which is one of very few bike racks that have the weight capacity you'd need.
