Is There A Kit For Converting Mobile Home Axles To 5 Or 6 Lug Trailer Hubs
Question:
Do you have a hub and brake kit that converts trailer house axle hubs to modern 5 or 6 lug hubs? I would like to convert an older trailer to modern hubs and brakes. If possible, include part #s that are compatible with this conversion. Thanks.

We won't have a kit, but there's a chance we might have parts to piece something together for you. I'll need to know the inner and outer wheel bearing reference number, the bolt pattern and size of your current wheels. Hopefully, we'll have a hub that is compatible with the wheel bearings you spindles use.
Mobile home axles are designed for one-time use in moving a mobile home, and are meant to be discarded after that. Using mobile home axles and wheels seems like a great idea at the time folks are constructing a home made trailer-they are cheap and readily available. The problem is that many times replacement parts aren't available, once again because the axles are not meant to be reused.
Let's say you need new tires, but you find that regular trailer tires are not compatible with the mobile home wheel. So, then you look into replacing the wheel, but find that trailer wheels are not compatible with the hubs on your mobile home axle because the bolt holes will not match up. So then you look into replacing the hubs, but find that the replacement hub/drums are not compatible with the spindles of the mobile home axle, and on and on.
Your best bet for the long run from the safety and availability of replacement parts standpoint would be to replace the mobile home axles with trailer axles. We offer a small selection of off the shelf axles that might work for you. I'd need to know the hub face to hub face dimension and the center-to-center distance between spring centers in order to recommend an axle.
