Recommended Trunk Bike Rack For A 2019 Ford Escape Titanium

Question:

Hello, We are looking for a 2-Bike Trunk Mounted Rack for a 2019 FORD Escape TITANIUM. It appears that there are no Thule products that fit. Saris offers some products to fit the TITANIUM but when you open the more informationinch tab it is a bit contradictory because it lists together excluding Titanium, Titanium. So which is it? If you could recommend or suggest a good choice for the Titanium Escape it would be helpful. You have great videos with examples for many makes and models but nothing for the Escape. There are many Escapes out there and some Titanium versions also. What are others finding works well? Lots of info on your site! Thanks

Hey Myron, we do have some great trunk mounted bike rack options for your 2019 Ford Escape Titanium. I agree that the way things are listed on the website is a bit confusing. Basically, in the case of the 2019 Ford Escape, all of the racks shown will fit both the Titanium and non-Titanium models, so this is why you may see it listed under both vehicle styles. I have included a link below that will show you all of the racks that will fit the Titanium model.

All that said, the Saris Bones EX 2 # SAR83FR that you were looking at is a great option for the 2019 Ford Escape Titanium. It is easily adjustable, and the rubber anti-sway straps do a great job keeping the bikes in place and prevent them from moving around too much while you are driving. Also, the rack itself weighs only 11 lbs, so it is very easy to handle. The only downside is that you will not be able to use the rear wiper with the rack installed, but that will be true for any rack.

We do recommend that you use the Hatch Huggers # SA3035 for your anchors.

Hi Jesse, Thanks for your quick reply and the info. What is the difference between the Saris Bones EX2 SAR83FR and the Bones 2 SA805BL?? Features, physical appearance and price appear the same. What does the designation FR or BL mean? Is one or the other better suited to mount to the hatch/spoiler of the Titanium Escape? Thanks! Myorn

@MyronT One big difference is that the Bones EX2 uses a one-piece aluminum tube for the arms. This allows for a larger range of adjustability than the Bones 2. We have also found that the one-piece aluminum tube is more durable, and easier to use with less moving plastic parts. It truly is a very clever design. Also the Bones EX2 has a total of four support arms, while the Bones 2 has three support arms. The increased adjustability and ease of use is what makes me lean towards the EX2 for your application. As far as the part numbers, we make unique part numbers for a lot of our parts. I believe the BL designation indicates the rack is black in color. The FR designation is one that we use commonly for our unique part numbers and to my knowledge, it does not mean anything. It does not indicate a specific feature of the product. Its just letters that someone picked.

@JesseM Hi Jesse, Sorry, lots of questions. You have so many models, manufacturers, videos. pictures, etc sometimes the picture doesn't match the product. or the cat# is for a 2 bike version while the pictures are for 3 bike, etc... Who would thikn a bike rack is so complicated. lol You recommend the Saris Bones EX2. What do you think of the Yakima Fullback 2 which has built in locks for bikes and rack. Yakima says all of their's fit Titanium. Thanks, have a nice evening

@MyronT I like all of the Yakima bike racks. I used the HoldUp 2 for a few years and I was very happy with the quality. I also like that almost all of the Yakima racks have a built in bottle opener. Just a cool feature. The Fullback 2 is about 10 lbs heavier than the Bones EX2. The design of the EX2 gives you more adjustability also. It may take a bit longer to get it fitted to your car, since there are a few more moving parts. Considering that and looking at the price point of both racks I still like the Saris Bones EX 2 as the best option. Saris is all Made here in the USA too.
