Troubleshooting Trailer Lights

Question:

I just got a utility trailer when its is hooked up and plugged in and I turn on a turn signal all lights flash and they flash fast side markers and tail lights is this a bad ground on the tow vehicle or traileror something else and does it matter if tow vehicle has led lights and trailer doesn’t

Yes it could be a bad ground, and it would not matter if the vehicle has LED lights and the trailer doesn't as that combo happens quite a bit. Check both your vehicle and trailer connectors for corrosion, which can be green or white in color. A build-up of corrosion can interfere with the signals getting through the connectors so if it is present you are going to need to replace the plug with # HM38134 for the trailer side. As for the grounds, make sure they are attached to bare metal surfaces and free of any paint, dirt or corrosion.

I have added a link below to a help article on trailer wiring for you to take a look at which may also be of use. Additionally, to help prevent any type of corrosion in your connector, and increase its durability and lifespan I highly recommend using Dielectric Grease for Electrical Connectors # 11755.
