Replacing Universal Wedge for Sidewinder with Pro Series Custom Wedge 30850

Question:

I have a 16k pro series with a sidewinder...i am so frustrated with hitching my trailer up...it doesnt hitch unless I am perfectly squared up...its to the point where its embarrassing at a campground...the problem is the wedge does not allow the pin to slide back far enough in the hitch to allow locking...will this wedge correct this? Also how do you know how to adjust it for maneuvering. Thank you

Your frustrating experience using a universal-fit wedge is not all that unusual. Use of a custom-fit wedge rather than a universal-fit type should result in easier hitching of your Sidewinder-equipped 5th wheel to your Pro Series # PS30119. The Reese wedge # 30850 you reference is a fit for a range of the ProSeries 15K, 16K and 20K 5th wheel hitches.

To adjust the wedge, connect it to the Sidewinder but do not fully torque it down just yet. Hookup to the fifth-wheel trailer and latch it properly. Then, with the trailer wheels blocked, landing gear resting firm on the ground and supporting the trailer weight, tap the wedge firmly forward until it will no longer travel. Now tighten the wedge bolts. If only one can be tightened tighten it and unhook. Then tighten both bolts and torque to the specifications listed in the instructions for your Sidewinder pin box.
