Installing Brake Controller on 2013 Toyota Tacoma w/ Factory Tow Package

Question:

I have a toyota Tacoma 2013 with the towing package. I want to install a trailer brake control. I have watched a couple videos, seems straight forward but have a couple of questions. I found the plug in down by the em. brake and unwrapped it. The end of it doesnt look like it will match up to the truck end of the 3040 P. I have a wiring harness in the glove that looks the right fit but on the video they just plugged the one end right into the pug by the em. brake.

The correct brake controller connector should be located at the top of the kick panel to the left of the emergency brake pedal. The connector should be white in color, like the one shown at about the :30 second mark in the video I've linked you to. One end of the # 3040-P would plug into the connector under the dash, the other end would plug into the brake controller. Is it possible you found the wrong connector?

The connector from the glove box is likely the factory provided brake controller pigtail. The pigtail would plug into the connector under the dash, and would directly wire to the brake controller using the following color code:

Black brake controller wire connects to black and red striped pigtail wire
Red brake controller wire connects to green and white striped pigtail wire
White brake controller wire connects to brown pigtail wire
Blue brake controller wire connects to red pigtail wire
Green pigtail wire is not used.

If you have not chosen a brake controller yet, I can highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885. The controller is very easy to use and simple to install, and is extremely popular and highly rated with our customers.

I can most likely confirm all this if you would care to reply with a photo of the connector you found under the dash as well as the pigtail from the glove box.
