Suspension Enhancement Options For A 2024 Ford F-350 DRW
Question:
I was curious about suspension options for a 2024 F350 DRW for occasional use with a Slide in camper between 4500-5000lbs. The standard product seems to be the Torklift Stable load for the lower overload spring. For the upper spring there is the Stable Load mounts as well and these do seem commonly used. Particularly, I was curious if there was any knowledge of the difference between the use of the roper stable loads or removing the upper overload spring and the Roadmaster Active suspension. It does seem that the RAS is common on smaller trucks towing trailers. For significantly higher payloads with a slide in camper, is the maximum capacity of the HD RAS going to be less than then engaging the factory overloads early with the upper stable loads? Could the RAS be adjusted somewhat beyond the 40 2mm disk when used with very heavy loads? Unloaded the RAS can be turned down to 20 1mm, do the upper stable loads still engage the overload springs with no additional payload? Which would drive better unloaded? Just curious on application between the two products, the upper stable load I’m sure is more common on larger trucks due to ease of Installation, vs removing the upper overload.

Hey Jared, those are some good questions. If you are trying to decide between the RAS and the Torklift Stable Load, I would have to recommend the Torklift StableLoad # TLA7200. Nothing against the RAS at all, but like you said they are more common on smaller trucks. With your camper being 4,000-5,000 lbs you would be pushing the RAS past its 3,000 lb capacity, which is not something we recommend doing. The Torklift StableLoad # TLA7200 does offer a higher capacity than the RAS so that is what I recommend. They are a very easy bolt on add on.
Both options are going to drive pretty well unloaded. Generally, the Torklift StableLoad is really not going to engage if there is no additional payload, so you really should not notice a difference. You may feel a bit more ride stiffness when doing over bumps but nothing major.
A lot of times for bigger truck bed campers like yours, we recommend an air bag kit such as the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs # F95FV. This is the extra heavy duty kit - rated for 7,500 lbs. The main advantage of air bags is the adjustability. You can level your ride when the camper is in the bed, and you can retain the factory ride when you are not under a load. They are going to be more difficult to install than the Torklift StableLoad, but a lot of people tell us that the versatility of an air bag makes it worthwhile.
