Hi Kurt,

To install a trailer brake controller in your motorhome on an F-53 chassis you'll first need to check the rear to see if you have a 4-pole or 7-pole trailer connector. If you don't already have a connector at all then you'll start by splicing in a 4-pole wire harness # 18002 into your factory tail light wiring to get the light signals.

From there you'll need the # ETBC7 to transition over to a 7-way connector. The 4-pole connector you install will connect to the 4-pole connector on the # ETBC7 and then you'll run the included 10 gauge wire up to the cab for the brake controller and to the battery for power. The yellow reverse light wire can be spliced into the reverse light circuit on the motorhome or just capped off with some electrical tape if you don't need it.

For the brake controller I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR. This controller has a main unit that mounts under the dash so that it's tucked out of the way. The control knob is one of the smallest on the market making it easy to find a location on the dash to drill through and mount for a nice factory look. Since there isn't a plug-and-play harness you will need to use the Universal Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers # RED69FR and will wire it in the following order:

Red - Cold side of the brake light switch
Black - 12v power
Blue - Brake output to 7-way
White - Ground

If you're having a hard time finding the cold side of the brake light switch you can also use the Roadmaster Universal Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751000 to simulate the signal for the brake controller. You'll also need an in-line fuse # 331-CBK30-EB with the black wire connection to the battery.
