I was able to pull up the owners manual of your 2016 Chevy Sonic online and on page 291 I was able to find the protocol for flat towing the vehicle:
Put the transmission in park and then turn the ignition to off.
Set the parking brake.
To prevent battery drain remove the DLIS fuse from fuse block see page 252.
Turn the ignition to the ACC position.
Shift the transmission into neutral.
Release the parking brake and you're ready to go.
You'll need to put the DLIS fuse back in before you drive the vehicle.
Chevy also recommends running the vehicle for 5 minutes before every day of towing and at every rest stop/gas station. This makes sure the transmission is lubricated properly.
