Recommended Sway Control System for Fleetwood Trailer Towed By 2007 Nissan Titan

Question:

Im towing a 2004 Fleetwood Terry 27FQS with 2007 Nissan Titan SE, with big tow package. The GVWR of the trailer is 7900 lbs, and the actual tongue weight is 1125 lbs. Im currently using a weight distribution with a friction sway control device, which doesnt seem to work at all. What can you recommend for us that will stop the sway from all passing vehicles on the freeway? It seems all vehicles including cars cause some sort of trailer sway. Thanks

Expert Reply:

Having a properly loaded trailer is the first step to combating trailer sway. If possible, try moving more weight toward the front of the trailer. If this proves to be insufficient, an active sway control system would be the way to go.

If you have a Reese Weight Distribution System that features the spring bars with the integrated cams on the end of them, we offer the Dual Cam High Performance Sway Control System part # 26002 that would be ideal. Instead of resisting sway like your friction device, the Dual Cam set-up will prevent it from occurring in the first place. When equipped with the dual cam system, your trailer will be forced to stay in line behind the tow vehicle. You will be able to negotiate turns with no problem, but wind or turbulence from passing vehicles will not affect the trailer.
