Weight Distribution and Trailer Sway System

Question:

I am interested in purchasing an all inclusive weight distribution and trailer sway system. I am interested in a product that would eliminate as much sway as possible. I have a 2010 Toyota Tundra Crew Max 4x4 Platinum Edition and am in the process of purchasing a Heartland North Trail 32 Buds Travel Trailer. The Trailer is rated at a GVWR of 8,600 pounds, Dry Weight of 6,796 pounds and Tongue Weight of 655 pounds. I am new to towing but have already purchased a brake controller from etrailer which was very easy to install.

When choosing weight distribution you will need to go by the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow plus the weight of any cargo loaded behind the rear axle. Based on the numbers you gave, the Strait-Line Weight Distribution Hitch System # 66074 will work for your application.

The Strait-Line Weight Distribution Hitch System is automatic and self-centering and uses pro-active sway control that stops trailer sway before it starts.

You will need a hitch ball with a 1-1/4" diameter shank and an adjustable shank. I recommend Hitch Ball # 19286. It has the proper shank diameter for the WD system above. For a shank, you can use the Reese Weight Distribution Shank. It is11 inch long, with a 6-3/4 inch drop to 11-1/2 inch rise # RP3215.

I have included a video that shows installation of a similar WD system to give you a better idea of how the dual cam system is installed, as well as a helpful article about weight distribution and sway control.
