Is There A Better Way To Keep A Toilet Seal From Drying Out
Question:
I appreciated your article about storing a trailer in the winter. However, it does not discuss what to do about the toilet. We live in Colorado where the climate is dry and experience high evaporation. I use RV antifreeze and drain valve lubricant to keep the toilet seal from drying out. i keep about 3 inches of liquid in the toilet bow. It also evaporates and has to be replenished every couple of months. Is the a better way to keep the toilet seal from drying out? Thanks for you help.

Beyond the antifreeze and drain valve lubricant, there is not much else you can do to keep the seal from drying out. I know the climate in Colorado can be pretty dry, but have you checked to make sure you do not have any leaks? It seems like 3" of water should not be evaporating that fast. Our only suggestion is to double check that nothing is leaking, or possibly keep more water in the bowl.
