Choosing A Transfer Switch For A 50 Amp Service Trailer With A 30 Amp Generator
Question:
Hello, I am trying to figure out which auto transfer switch to get for my Travel Trailer. The Camper is factory wired for 50 amp, although it runs on 30 amp just fine. It is wired for 50 amps because the camper is prewired to add a second A/C. I permanently mounted a 30 amp generator and I want to hard wire it so I can run the AC during travel. Can you help me with which auto transfer switch I should be using? Thank you.

With your trailer having 50 amp service you would have to go with a 50 amp transfer switch like the Furrion # F50ATS you were looking at. Unfortunately since the generator is only 30 amps it wouldn't trigger the transfer switch with the lower amperage. You would need to either hardwire in a 50 amp generator to the transfer switch or plug your trailer's shore power cable to the 30 amp generator using an adapter in order to power the trailer.
