Will 8,000 lb Curt Weight Distribution Hitch be Okay For 5,000 lb Camper
Question:
So I bought a 8k lb Curt weight distribution hitch couple years ago, if I buy a 5k lb camper, will this be okay or do I need to buy a new hitch? I don’t know if it matters but I will be towing with a 2021 Honda Pilot

It will likely be fine but without knowing the exact Curt weight distribution hitch you have, and the loaded tongue weight of your camper I can't definitively say. But for example, if you have the 8k Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution # C17499, this is good for loaded tongue weights between 500 lbs and 800 lbs.
Loaded tongue weight is generally between 10 and 15 percent of the trailer's GVWR, so a 5,000 lb GVWR trailer would fall perfectly in range with the 500 lb to 800 lb # C17499.
If your trailer happens to have a different tongue weight you would need a new hitch, and I've added a link below to our selection of weight distribution hitches.
