Question:

I need this size door but the locks are so cheap and easy to open with a screw driver. And I keep getting my gas stolen. And I can’t find a locking gas cap for my saddle gas tanks. Please help I’m so sick of having my gas stolen. My 1969 GMC Truck with two saddle tanks. Please help. I love my truck. Simple problems that I can’t get any help with. I’ve got money to pay for help . Please help an old 66 year old plumber. I would appreciate any advise or help you could provide. Thank you

If the thieves are using a screw driver to remove a door like the # UF48-979010 then I would use something like rivets for the installation to keep them from getting into it. This would likely be enough to deter the average person looking for an easy target. A locking gas cap is not something we carry so I can't really help with that.

If they're busting out the actual lock core or picking the lock then that isn't something this locking door or any other out there will solve. 99% of the locks like this are designed as a deterrent for would-be thieves who don't want to put in a lot of effort to steal gas. Someone who is determined to get into it likely will in a number of ways unfortunately.

If you think installing this with rivets would work then I would go that route. If not, you could see if a local fabricator could make a more robust door for you. Then you could add a heavy duty lock core and latch of your choosing that would be a lot harder to defeat for the average criminal.
