Will A Gen-Y Gooseneck Pin Box Work With A 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 With A Standard Bed

Question:

I just read where you stated that a Solitude may be able to be towed with the GenY hitch GY58GR. That was a F350 Ford short box. Have a 2024 Silverado 3500 standard bed SRW. Could that hitch work with my full width 5th wheel?

The Gen-Y Hitch 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY58GR has a 1621 bolt pattern, which is the most common pattern so there's a good chance that your Solitude also has this pattern and could swap to this pin box. There should be a sticker that lists a serial number, LCI item number, and RPO number that we can use to look up your pattern and see if it's a fit. You'll also want to check your trailer's fully loaded pin weight to ensure that this is the correct capacity. This specific model is designed for 1,500lbs - 3,500lbs of pin weight.

As for the truck, with a standard bed you'd likely be able to make most turns but likely wouldn't be able to make a 90 degree turn. To add a bit more turning clearance you can use an offset ball like the Curt # C602.

You can check your turning clearance by taping a plumb bob to the furthest point outwards on the front corner of the trailer. You'll measure from the plumb bob line over to the center of the king pin on the pin box. From there you can take your tape measure over to the truck and set it in the center of the hitch jaws or gooseneck ball with the tape measure sticking out the distance you had on the trailer. You can turn the tape measure to see if it would touch the cab. If it does then you'll want to look into offset balls and be careful when making tight turns.
