The remote that comes with the Dometic FanTastic Roof Vent # FV807350 uses an Infared signal to communicate with the vent. The remote really just needs to be in the same room or general vicinity of the vent. So I would pick a good accessible location, as close to the vent itself as possible. That way you could control the vent without having to remove the remote from the cradle and point it directly at the vent.
