A tailgate pad for 2 bikes that only covers half the tailgate is indeed something you can get. It is made by Kuat and is technically a half-pad, with the correct part being the following:
- Kuat Huk Half Tailgate Bike Pad for Trucks - 2 Bikes # KU49ZR
The # KU49ZR is only 25 inches wide, so it won't even take up half the tailgate since most trucks nowadays have tailgates in the 60+ inch range.
