Recommended Bike Carrier For 2012 Mazda CX-9 With Rear Spoiler
Question:
Trying to find out if the Thule Th65JV platform bike rack can be used on my 2012 Mazda CX9. Thule customer service says yes but Im concerned about the top straps coming over the spoiler. I don't want to use a hitch so that why I am looking for a trunk mount design that will work. What say you ?

The Thule OutWay Platform-Style 2 Bike Carrier, part # TH65JV, is confirmed as a fit for your 2011 Mazda CX-9. We have had customers attach the upper straps through openings between the spoiler and the top of their hatch, but many vehicles do not have that gap. If you are concerned that the weight of the bike rack at 48 lbs combined with the weight of bikes you plan on carrying may be too much then you may want to look at other options for a carrier.
Another style bike carrier you may wish to consider is the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top 2 Bike Carrier, part # HRF2. This is designed for SUVs, minivans, and hatchbacks with spoilers. This is not a platform-style carrier but its design helps avoid problems with spoilers. I have attached an installation video for this carrier.
If you decide to go with a hanging bike rack and you plan on carrying either women's bikes or bikes with alternative frames like kids bikes, I recommend an adapter like part # HRBA-PRO. This attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem. It helps carry the bikes more evenly in the carrier and provides more ground clearance.
