Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendations For Carrying 2 Bikes on the Bumper of an RV

Question:

I have a Montana 5th wheel that does not have any hitch at all. I am look for something to use to mount two bikes. I will never consider towing anything behind the 5th wheel.....is there any low cost hitch that can be safely attached to the back bumper of the trailer to use only for transporting bikes?

We sell RV bumper hitches that would work well for you to carry an RV rated bike rack at the rear of your Montana 5th wheel trailer. If you have a 2 inch square bumper I would recommend the Curt Hitch part # C19101. If you have a 4 inch square bumper I would recommend the Curt Hitch part # E-100.

Now for a bike rack you will need to get a rack that is rated for use behind an RV. The ride is much rougher at the rear of an RV when compared to a passenger vehicle, so a rack not rated for RV use could break if used on one.

The Yakima HoldUp 2 part # Y02443 you referenced is not rated for RV use so I would not recommend it for you. Instead you would want something like a Swagman Platform-Style 2 Bike Carrier # S64663. This is a similar bike rack confirmed to work on the back of an RV and can work in a 2 inch hitch like I recommended earlier or can bolt to a 4-4-1/2 inch square bumper directly.
