Availability of Base Plates to Flat Tow 2000 GMC Jimmy 4WD

If your Jimmy is not the Xtreme or Black Diamond model, we offer two Roadmaster base plate kits that are compatible with 4WD Jimmy models. From all the information I could find online, your Jimmy is capable of being flat towed if it has the NP-236 transfer case, but I would recommend you confirm this for yourself by checking your owner's manual and with your GMC dealer.

If using a fixed, non-removable base plate is okay, you can go with the Roadmaster # 165-2 base plate kit. If you are wanting a base plate with a removable drawbar, use # 179-8. This base plate kit will not work with the Tow Defender, Stowaway, StowMaster and StowMaster All Terrain tow bars.

In addition to the tow bar and base plates, you will also need safety cables like part # RM-643 and a lighting solution so the lights on your Jimmy work along with the lights on the RV. If you will not be towing frequently, a magnetic mount tow light kit like # RM-2120 would be recommended. If you will be towing frequently, a diode kit like # RM-154 would work better.

The majority of states require a supplemental braking system that will operate the towed vehicle brakes along with those of the RV. A portable kit like the Roadmaster Even Brake, part # RM-9400 is easy to use and easy to install.
