Correct Frame Plate Orientation for Strait-Line Dual Cam Arm Assembly
Question:
Ive ordered the strait-line hitch with 800 pound bars for my 27foot Airstream, to be towed by my Nissan Titan XD. Ive watched the videos about installation, and also read all the instructions you have plus those Reese has put out. My question concerns the cam mounts - Ive seen them mounted on the frame with the cams both oriented at the rear of the mounting plate farthest back from the coupler, as well as with the cam to the forward position of the mounting plate closest to the coupler. Which way is actually correct? Or is there some reason why it might be mounted in either orientation? Its very confusing to see it illustrated both ways - your RP69FR image shows the cam in the forward position relative to the coupler, but Reeses installation instruction N26002.pdf shows the opposite orientation with the cam at the farthest point back from the coupler. And my previous installation, done at a RV service center on my Flagstaff travel trailer, had the cam from the front position of the mounting plate. Im attaching a pic from your description showing forward position and one from Reese installation instructions showing back position to explain my question. Any assistance is welcome and needed. Both positions are actually correct. If you are looking at the instructions for the # RP66083 you will see it in the rear position on page 3 which I also attached below. The instructions state "If the frame plate interferes with any part of the trailer frame, the orientation can be changed by switching sides."
What this is saying is that you can flip them around. It is simply a matter of what works best for your setup. The only thing that is really important is getting the measurements correct. I went ahead and attached the diagram from page 7 as well which shows the optional frame bracket orientation.
