How To Determine If Old Yakima SpaceCase Uses The Newer SKS Lock Cores?

Question:

I was given an old Yakima space case box, serial # YSC 00371 which I am hoping to utilize. Gone are the keys and the locks are in the locked position. I understand I need to drill out the lock cores which are pretty bad shape given the previous owner used a screwdriver was used to attempt to open the locks. What lock core set do I need as a replacement?

Expert Reply:

I reached out to Yakima but they could not find any information on your serial number. They did say if you look at the lock core and see a number printed on the lock core it is pre SKS. Otherwise you should see SKS stamped into the lock core on the outside. If this is what you have we do have the locks available with multiple cores. If you have other Yakima Same Key System accessories you will be able to key everything alike.

Yakima Same Key System 2 Cores # Y07202
Yakima Same Key System 4 Cores # Y07204
Yakima Same Key System 6 Cores # Y07206
Yakima Same Key System 8 Cores # Y07208
