Does Installing New Trailer Brake Assemblies Require New Drums At Same Time
Question:
When replacing brake assemblies, specifically AKEBRK-8L and # AKEBRK-8R, do I need new drums? Or can I have the current drums cut at a brake shop? Or do I just reuse the existing drums as long as they still meet the specs if I measure them with a digital caliper?

Expert Reply:
When installing brake assemblies like the # AKEBRK-8L and # AKEBRK-8R it is not required that you also replace the drums at the same time. As long as they are in good shape still and the thickness is good like you mentioned measuring with your caliper you're totally fine.
