How Sealed is the Motor Housing on the Stromberg Carlson Electric A-Frame Tongue Jack

Question:

While watching the video description, I noticed that the switches are water resistant. I currently have to replace an electric jack that is only 5 years old because moisture has gotten into the housing and rusted parts in the jack causing it to lock up and be inoperative. How sealed is the motor housing so that moisture cant penetrate and rust the interior parts?

I spoke with my contact at Stromberg and he said that the switches are encased in weather proof boots and a plastic housing fits over everything else. When I told him of your concerns due to the issues with your current electric jack, he explained that the only area that moisture could possibly enter the housing is through the access cap. Removing the cap allows you access to override the system should you ever need to operate the jack manually. In this case, once you have removed the cap, he would recommend using a small amount of lithium grease when replacing the cap. This is just an added safety precaution you may want to use to ensure a moisture tight seal.
