Comparing 4.80/4.00-8 Trailer Tires and Speed Rating of 4.80/4.00-8 Trailer Tires

Question:

I have a small boat trailer. The size of the tires on it are 400x8. I wan to replace both tires and also the rim on one. The rim has 4 lug nuts. I have reviewed your inventory and cannot determine if the load c tire and the load c tire on the rim are the same quality tire. I also need to how fast I will be able to tow this small trailer on the highway?

Helpful Expert Reply:

Tire and wheel combo # AM30040 is the same tire as # AM10004. They are both made by the same company and both have the same rating and load range.

The trailer tires that we carry are rated for 65 miles per hour. You do not want to exceed the speed rating because it will build up excess heat. Trailer tires already have a thicker sidewall than passenger vehicle tires and this adds to the heat they generate. So you do not want to increase the heat by going over 65 miles per hour. I have included a link to our help article on trailer tires for you.
