How to Pick Out a Weight Distribution System for a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 Towing a Rockwood Roo
Question:
We are buying a Rockwood Roo 21DK with a tongue weight of 565lb. Cargo weight in the pick-up box is less than 200lbs The tow vehicle is a 2004 Silverado, 1500 1/2ton. I have been looking at the Reece RP66077 Is this a good fit? What shank and ball would be compatible. thanks

The Strait-Line Weight Distribution System # RP66083 that you referenced could work for you, but before you can pick out a weight distribution system you have to know the loaded tongue weight of the setup as it will be when you are towing. Also, the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle counts as tongue weight.
You are on the right track for picking out a system, but you need to know the loaded tongue weight. I attached an FAQ on this for you to check out.
If once you determine your loaded tongue weight and it is less than 800 lbs the # RP66077 would be an excellent choice for you. You would need a shank as well though. For that I would recommend the RP54970.
If your tongue weight exceeds 800 lbs then you might be interested in the higher rated system part # RP66074. This system can handle tongue weights of up to 1,200 lbs.
I attached an FAQ article on weight distribution systems for you to check out as well.
