Troubleshooting Trailer Stop Lights Not Working with Trailer Connector Adapter for Land Rover

Question:

I have purchased the Trailer Connector Adapter for Land Rover - 7-Way, Round Pin, European Style to 4-Way Flat for a 2001 Volvo xc70 OEM European 7-pin plug. Everything works except the stop lights when brake is applied all the trailer lights go out. Do I need another adapter, or how can I fix this?

The first thing to check when troubleshooting the Trailer Connector Adapter for Land Rover # 118710 is if the plug at the back of your Land Rover has the stop lights tied in with the running lights or not. To do this you just need a circuit tester # PTW2993 and someone to run through the different light functions while you're testing the various pins. If the stop lights are separated out then that could be cause the issue and you need to get them combined.

If the stop lights are combined with the running lights then you may have too many lights on your trailer so when you hit the brakes it overloads the circuits and causes everything to short out.

Let me know what you find and I'll be happy to help troubleshoot further, plus I've added a troubleshooting helpful article from our site for your reference.
