The railing on my trailer does not go straight to tailgate, right behind fender does a 45 angle and slopes to floor. Will it work if I mount the end 3ft from tailgate?

The Gorilla-Lift Utility Trailer Tailgate Lift Assist w/ Cable # GL1 would still work even if it was placed further back, but with a 3' gap you'd likely need to get a longer cable from your local hardware store to bridge the gap. If not the spring would be under a ton of tension and would likely prevent you from opening the gate.
