How To Properly Measure Slipper Springs For Your Trailer's Leaf Sping Suspension

Question:

I am trying to determine the size/length of a slipper spring for replacement. How do you measure it? I measured mine and it seemed to be 30...Is the measurement from the bolt on one end to the bracket on the other end or from the bolt to the end of the spring itself. Thanks...

Expert Reply:

To properly measure your leaf springs you'll want to lift the trailer by the frame to take the weight off of the suspension and then measure from the center of the eyelet straight across the spring to the end of the slipper (pictured below). From there you'll also need to know the capacity of the axle so that you can get a matching capacity leaf springs. Whenever you change out a leaf spring you'll want to change out both sides of the axle.

If you really do have a 30" length then we have a few options to choose from depending on your axle capacity, which I've attached a link to below.
