Can Trailer Hub Be Swapped to Fit Different Spindle by Swapping Bearings

Question:

I am building a 14foot tandom axle trailer. My question is can you take a hub from a 1.7 axle and change the bearings so it will fit on a 2.3in axle. The axle shaft for the 2.3 axle is 1.25. Would you recommend 13or 14inch tires. 1 atv and 1 utv will be the only thing the trailer will ever haul. Thank you

You are not able to swap a a hub that was designed for a different size spindle to fit a different spindle by just swapping bearings. If you can fit the 14 inch wheel and tires I would go that route if you can as they'll have better weight capacities and stability. The Karrier wheel and tire part # AM32182 is a 14 inch wheel and tire in the size of ST215/75R14 that has a weight capacity of 1,870-lb maximum load at 50 psi.
