Replacement Axle For 50/60's Winnebago Travel Trailer With 50" Spring Center & Capacity of 3,500LBS
Question:
Hi, Im looking for an axle for a late 50s or early 60s single axle Winnebago Travel Trailer. Im unsure the exact model or vin #. Its been sitting on my father in laws farm for over 15 years since he bought it. I dont think the current axle would make it out of their driveway. Im a little overwhelmed by everything. Im hoping you can direct me to the correct parts. The current axle is an underslug square axle that is somewhere between 1.75 to 2 square. The old license plate tab lists 3,000 lbs GVW on the registration sticker on the license plate. So Im assuming it is a 3,000 or 3,500 pound rated axle. It has a 4 drop. Center to Center on the springs is 50. I believe they are 2 wide. Center to Center on the spring mounting holes are 30. Back to back on the hubs is 62 and that is a little weird because one side has an electric brake hub and the other does not. I didnt get a front to front of hub measurement because the wheel bolts were so rusted Im sure one or more would have broken off if I had tried. Though there is a good 2 of clearance on both sides of the tire in the wheel well. Id like to replace that with a straight axle to increase ground clearance. Possibly even with an overslung axle to help it a little more. I think for now Id just like idler hubs but an axle that could take an electric brake hub in the future if desired. Our goal is repair and modernize the trailer. Currently it will be towed with an F-250 that normally pulls our 35ft 9,500 pound beast. However in the future we may get an Explorer or Tahoe sized SUV and so Id like the option to go back and add electric brakes if we do that and want to tow it with something a little smaller. Thanks so much for your help. Hopefully you can direct me to the parts I need if you have them. Incidentally I think the father and law bought it from another farmer in the area. It does not even have working lights let alone brakes, or rather the one side that had brake. Thanks!

I recommend installing the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension # A35RS545 on your Winnebago travel trailer. We currently do not carry any axles with your 50" spring center measurement or a hub face close to 62" in the 3,000-3,500lb range. The Timbren system includes idler hubs with a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern and places the hub face 6" from the edge of the trailer frame. It has a standard spindle design which places the centerline of the axle 3-13/16" below the trailers frame. It also has its own suspension built in which is superior to leaf springs and will give you better ground clearance than a traditional straight axle.
