Determining Pin Weight And Compatbility Of A Gen-Y 5th Wheel Pin Box On A Toy Hauler Trailer

Question:

I have a momentum 395ms and specs say my pin weight is 2900. When I do the calculation on the hitch it’s saying gVRW x .22 which comes to 4400lbs Sadly the 2900 and the 4400 do not range in the same hitch. Which item should I go with 5500 or the 4500?

The formula you used is only a guess and wouldn't be an accurate way to determine your trailer's actual pin weight since it's a triple axle toy hauler. The only way to get an accurate number would be to measure at highway weigh station. You'll hook up to the trailer and drive onto the scale with only the 4 wheels of the truck sitting on the scale. You can then unhook from the trailer and measure the weight of the truck. You'll subtract the truck's weight from the weight while connected to the trailer to determine your pin weight.

Th pin weight of a toy hauler will also typically be a bit higher when unloaded since it's designed to have heavy toys in the back to counterbalance. Once you have the actual pin weight calculated you can then deicide between the 4.5K TW # GY78GR (2,600-3,599lbs calculated TW) or 5.5K TW # GY43GR (3,600-4,599lbs calculated TW). You'll also need to verify the bolt pattern of your current pin box first to ensure that these are a compatible replacement. Both of these options are for a Lippert Rhino bolt pattern.
