Replacing Hubs On A 1988 Terry Trailer
Question:
Hi, I am looking for a drum replacement for 1988 Terry Trailer. The Dexter 10inch x 1-1/2inch Brake Drum almost fits but there is offset front to back so drum hits brake magnet before the rear bearing seats...in other words close but not useable. Current Drum is 10, 1 1/2, 5 on 4.5, front bearing L44649, rear bearing LM67048...spacing between bearing outer edges is 2 1/4 Any Suggestions? Thank You,

I can certainly point you in the right direction. I will say that since the trailer is about 35 years old, replacing the hubs may prove difficult. A lot of sizes that they used back then are basically obsolete these days. For example, the inner bearing # LM67048 is highly uncommon nowadays. Unfortunately, we do not have any hubs available that will meet your specifications. There may be secondhand parts out there, but I see that as a long shot.
Your best bet will be to either replace the spindles, or replace the axle altogether. This way you will be using a spindle that is a common standard size. If you want to replace the spindles, I recommend the # TRU77FR, which is a standard 3,500 lb spindle. This will go with the # AKEBRK-35-SA electric brake assemblies, and the hub/drum # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K. This is a 10" x 2-1/2" drum. It is best to have new spindles welded on by a professional axle shop or trailer shop.
If you want to replace the axle, we will need to confirm the overall length of the current axle. Axles are measured across from hub face to hub face.
