With your Hopkins Engager # 20400 always showing yellow on the screen this could mean your Battery # HM20008 needs replaced. Often times when the battery will not fully charge and switch to a green light this means the battery will no longer reach a full charge. You will want to make sure nothing is drawing power from the battery which would also cause it to show it needs to charge.
As for the trailer brake wiring you will not always be able to go off the color of the wiring or terminal inside the junction box as the manufacturer does not always wire it to a color code. You will first want to check the wiring connections to verify they are going to the correct connectors and the connectors are properly separated and not causing a short or grounding issue. Typically when there is an intermittent issue with trailer brakes it is due to a wiring short/disconnecting issue.
